daughter of John GRILLS and Philadelphia _______

As early as 1778, John McADOO, Jr. was living in the Watauga Settlement during the Revolutionary War and served under Gen. John SEVIER, a resident of Holston area, in the Battle of Kings Mountain.  His parents-in-law were also from Augusta Co. and Botetourt Co. in VA where the McADOOS lived.  Philadelphia GRILLS wrote her will in Hawkins Co., NC in 1789 naming among her heirs, daughter Martha McADOW.  By 1796, TN was created and the McADOOs found themselves in this new state.  In 1802, John had 152 acres in Anderson Co., TN.  Later in 1810 he received a NC land grant for 200 acres.  He died at his home, 3-1/2 miles from Clinton in the vicinty of the old Watauga Settlement, from an injury received in a fall from his horse.  John and Martha were said to have had five children, but John's will only named four.  It is possible that one child died without leaving any children prior to when John wrote his will.
