Thomas FLIPPEN served as a sergeant in Capt. Thomas BUFORD's Company of Bedford Co., VA in 1774 during Lord Dunmore's War.  In the Rev. War, he provided valuable services as a scout and a teamster.  By 1782, the FLIPPINs and McADOOs were living in Greene Co., TN where Thomas purchased his land grants in 1783.  Later in 1787 he received two land grants of 200 acres each.  When Hawkins Co., TN was created, his property fell in this new county.   He was appointed captain by Gov. William BLOUNT of NC in 1790.  He was granted 475 acres in Hawkins Co. in 1791.  In 1792, the FLIPPINs again found themselves in a new county of Jefferson Co.  By 1797 they moved to Warren Co., KY.   Thomas had land there by 1798 and they found themselves living in Barren Co. when it was created in 1799.  It was in Barren Co. when Rhoda died sometime between 1810 to 1816.  Thomas married second on 24 Dec 1816 to Jane McCUNE / MACONER, a widow.  The family again found themselves in a new county of Monroe which was created in 1820.  Thomas was either visiting his son or living in Henry Co., TN when he wrote his will in 1830 and died there.
