*The name of John Whitaker's wife was obtained from the biographical sketch written by John F. Culpepper, Sr., son of Elizabeth (Whitaker) Culpepper. The sketch named his maternal grandparents as "John and Polly Whitaker nee (Holliway)" who were among the early settlers of Coweta Co., GA. So far this is the only source giving her name. [Memoirs of Georgia, Vol. I (1895), pp. 417-418.]
**In a letter written by Mary (Whitaker) Hardegree's son Hiram Lee Hardegree for his mother, both residents of Rusk Co., TX, to Elizabeth (Whitaker) Culpepper back in GA in 1855, "brothers" were mentioned, but not named. Research and sources show that the brothers could be John Jr., Daniel, Littleberry and Pleasant H.
Another source Our Children's Ancestry by Sarah Cantry Whitaker Allen (p. 105) mentioned a letter from Mrs. Clyde F. Hunt of Thomson, GA which stated that "Pleasant Holoway Whitaker had two brothers, Thomas and Berry, and, other brothers and sisters" Berry is a name usually abbreviated for Littleberry.
